Elderly Italian who fell out of ambulance dies from injury

Rome - An 80-year-old man who fell from the back of a ambulance has died from brain trauma sustained in the incident, Italian media reported Wednesday. The man was being taken for a routine x-ray to hospital in the city of Bari on the Adriatic Sea.
When the ambulance pulled away, the man apparently slipped out the back, where the doors had not been properly locked, local media said.
The responsible clinic disputed the local media reports, saying events could hardly have occurred in that way. An internal investigation was underway, it said.
The state prosecutor in Bari was also investigating the accident, which happened several weeks ago.
