A Polish family are suing undertakers after they lined up to say their final farewells to a beloved female relative - and found a dead man lying inside the coffin.
The family as well as dozens of friends of Maria Lodkowski, who died of a heart attack aged 76, had gathered for the funeral at Legnica in Poland when it was agreed to open the coffin for mourners to file past and say a final farewell. But when the lid was opened, the mourners found the body of a complete stranger inside.
Police spokesman Slawomir Masojc said: "The funeral parlour tried to say the body changes a lot after death and may not be recognisable - which may be true, but it doesn't change sex."
