'Go Pussy!' Silvio Berlusconi suggests new offensive name for his Italian political party to boost its popularity
By Martin Robinson
7th October 2011

Beleaguered Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi has suggested re-naming his political party 'Go Pussy' because it is tanking at the polls, it was claimed today.

The controversial politician's 'Forza Italia' party, which means 'Go Italy', is suffering record low popularity ratings because of the sex scandals the leader is caught up in and his country's ailing economy. This week Italy's credit rating was downgraded and there are widespread protests against his 45 billion euro austerity package.

Mr Berlusconi is also fighting allegations that he hired more than 30 women, including actresses and prostitutes, to attend his famous bunga bunga parties, where after-dinner sex games are played at his home near Milan. He has always denied any knowledge that the women were escorts and that he paid for sex insisting he could 'never understand people who pay for sex as there is no thrill of the chase.' He is also at the heart of ongoing trials for bribery, tax fraud, abuse of office and paying for sex with a 17-year-old nightclub dancer.

The prime minister's popularity rating was at a record low of 24 percent in September, according to the latest poll by the IPR Marketing Institute. But this latest error of judgment is likely to upset voters even further. 'We will change the name of the People of Freedom because people no longer carry it in their hearts,' the 75-year-old exclaimed in parliament, the Italian media has said. 'We will examine any suggestions,' he added.'I'm told the name that would have the biggest success is "Go Pussy!".'

The concept of 'Forza Italia' was developed by Berlusconi when the billionaire entered politics in the 1990s, linking the party with Italy's great love, football. Today opposition politicians have jumped on this latest gaffe, including Antonio Borghesi from the Italy of Values opposition party. 'I have to say Berlusconi's latest quip wasn't bad."Go Pussy!" just about sums up his lifestyle and his way of doing politics.'

And senior figures from with the church have now called on him to resign. Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco said his general 'behaviour is contrary to public dignity' and 'difficult to reconcile with institutional decorum'. And his deputy from Berlusconi's own party, Barbara Saltamartini, said his joke was 'inappropriate and not funny', but added 'We all know and appreciate the irony and great sympathy of Berlusconi.'
