Amsterdam's metro system is to be closed between central station and Amstel station for almost five weeks for maintenance, but no work will actually be carried out, the Parool reports on Thursday.
The tunnel was scheduled to be closed to allow contractors to improve fire safety, but a dispute over the contract means the work will not happen, the paper says.
But now it is too late to keep the tunnel open because train drivers have been sent on holiday and alternative bus services to carry passengers have been arranged, the paper says.
The city's infrastructure and transport department is currently under investigation after a strike of problems and financial setbacks.
