The currents of the Persian Gulf are sweeping tonnes of dead fish into the Bay of Dubai.
This is not an unusual phenomenon in this time of year with high temperatures and the growth of algae, together with pollution, but it has taken on alarming proportions.
The newspaper The National writes that yesterday the beach between Al Gharhoud Bridge and Business Bay was covered with dead or dying fish. Environmentalists say that more than a hundred tonnes of dead fish have been dumped since September, an unprecedented amount.
The Municipality of Dubai has ordered a study to establish the volume and cause of the phenomenon.
